My Sports ID Card: Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how My Sports ID Card collects, uses, and discloses information from all users, including children, on our website and digital card platform. We are committed to protecting your privacy and, in the case of children, complying with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and other relevant regulations.

Information We Collect

We collect a variety of information to provide and improve our service. The information collected from a user depends on whether they are a minor or an adult.

  • Information from All Users: We collect basic profile information, such as name, sport, and team. We may also collect certain non-personally identifiable information, such as IP address and browser type, to help us analyze website usage and improve our service.
  • Information from Children (under 13): To create a My Sports ID Card for a child under the age of 13, we require verifiable parental consent before we collect any personal information. With parental consent, we may collect the child’s name, sport, team, and a photograph. We do not collect more personal information than is reasonably necessary for a child to use our platform.
  • Information from Users Age 13 and Older: We may collect additional information such as social media handles, biographical information, and links to personal websites.

How We Use the Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To create and maintain the digital business card.
  • To personalize the user’s experience on our platform.
  • To improve our website and services.
  • To communicate with users about their accounts and our services.

For children, we will only use the collected information for the specific purposes for which we obtained parental consent. We will not use a child’s personal information for behavioral advertising or disclose it to third parties, unless it is integral to the functioning of our service and we have obtained parental consent for that specific disclosure.

Verifiable Parental Consent

For children under the age of 13, we must obtain verifiable parental consent as required by COPPA. This means we will take a reasonable step to ensure that the person providing consent is the child’s parent or legal guardian. This may involve methods such as:

  • Sending an email to the parent and having them provide consent through a confirmation link.
  • Requiring the parent to provide a credit card number, from which a small, non-refundable charge may be made.
  • Asking knowledge-based authentication questions that only a parent would likely know.

You have the right to review, edit, or request the deletion of your child’s personal information at any time. You can also refuse to permit the further collection or use of your child’s information. To make such a request, please contact us using the information provided in the “Contact Us” section.

School Policies and Data

We recognize that students, particularly those in K-12, are subject to various school-based data privacy policies. We encourage all users, and especially parents of minors, to be aware of and comply with their school’s policies regarding the use of student data with third-party services.

  • FERPA: The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects the privacy of student education records. While My Sports ID Card is not an educational institution, we advise parents to understand how their school’s policies may affect their ability to share certain types of information (e.g., academic records, disciplinary actions) on their child’s digital card.
  • School Consent: In some cases, schools or school districts may act as the parent’s agent to provide consent for a child’s use of a third-party service like ours. However, this school consent is typically limited to situations where the service is used for an educational purpose and not for commercial activities. Our platform is a commercial service, and as such, we require direct parental consent, even if a school has approved its use.

We will not knowingly collect or use student data from our users in a way that violates FERPA or other school policies. We do not require or collect student education records.

Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and administrative security measures to protect the personal information we collect. However, no data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. We cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes to this policy, particularly those that affect the collection and use of children’s information, by posting the new policy on this page and updating the “Effective Date” at the top.
